{:es}Las obras de la artista Angélica Sáenz juegan con las escenas cotidianas y la naturaleza, todas dentro de una atmósfera de movimiento, para mostrar un momento preciso capturado, previamente, con su cámara fotográfica.

Angélica Sáenz desde temprana edad vivió cercana al arte: su madre pintaba, quien estudió con el maestro de la pintura realista, Miguel Venegas Cifuentes. Angélica recuerda que cuando eran niñas, a ella y su hermana, su madre les preparaba una paleta con pinturas y les colocaba una cebolla de referente, para que así pintaran. Ambas, posteriormente, estudiarían arte.
Sus temas siempre son variados, aunque el foco es el mismo. Primeramente, en la Universidad, se inspiró en las bailarinas, admiraba la obra de Degas, y con esta motivación sacaba fotografías de las estudiantes de la escuela de Danza, lo que le permitió crear obras originales; tomaba negativos de cada instante del movimiento de una bailarina, ya que desde ese entonces quería expresar de forma particular el concepto de movimiento.

Además de sus estudios de Licenciatura en Artes Plásticas en la Universidad de Chile, Angélica realizó dos cursos de pintura realista en Estados Unidos. Uno dentro del centro de extensión de Harvard University, y otro en la escuela del Museo de Fine Arts de Boston. En esa época pintaban en una buhardilla y el profesor les enseñaba a un grupo heterogéneo de alumnos la técnica de la pintura realista, impresionista, además de puntillista. Durante ese periodo, copiaban obras de grandes maestros realistas que se encontraban en el mismo museo, este ejercicio le permitió aprender a perfeccionar su técnica al óleo, además de desarrollar la observación con mayor agudeza. Fue durante esta época que se inclinó definitivamente por una expresión pictórica realista.
“Quisiera plasmar en la obra un instante para siempre”
Respecto de sus temas, son escenas cotidianas y simples, y lo que le atrae es la naturaleza: desde variadas especies de pájaros de menor tamaño, hasta cóndores y águilas, además paisajes del mar con sus olas, reflejos y transparencias, también figuras humanas en ambientes naturales, todas estas figuraciones dentro de una atmósfera de movimiento, de vientos inasibles. Para esto, su gran aliada ha sido la fotografía ya que siempre está buscando qué elemento de la naturaleza puede aportarle como inspiración para sus obras. Con la cámara capta el instante que quiere transmitir en la pintura, luego lo plasma en su lenguaje pictórico que expresa con trazos sueltos y precisos. Sus colores son puros y limpios, paisajes luminosos, frescos, expansivos, con el movimiento particular de la naturaleza, que la artista logra expresar con sutileza y agilidad. Predomina el color azul en sus obras, como ella misma define: “El azul es atmósfera”.

“El águila da la sensación que está rompiendo el aire en el cielo”
Un referente para ella es el pintor impresionista español Joaquín Sorolla, de quien admira sus colores, su expresión y cómo este artista lograba expresar los cuerpos mojados y el movimiento. Angélica, ha recurrido a sus hijos para crear sus composiciones con figuras humanas: los capta de espalda para que representen una figura universal, un niño o una joven, y así el público pueda identificarse con ellos como imágenes genéricas. “Busco que mis cuadros aquieten el espíritu, ayudar al espectador a que se sienta en paz con lo que ve, creo ambientes tranquilos”, explica.
Si bien, hay un dinamismo en el vuelo de los pájaros, en el oleaje de las aguas, y del viento sobre la naturaleza, este movimiento particular que expresa la artista, es una creación ingrávida y delicada, tanto su paleta de matices, la maestría pictórica, como la elección compositiva, que nos invitan a adentrarnos en la contemplación de ambientes de quietud.{:}{:en}The works of the artist Angelica Saenz play with daily scenes and nature, all within a movement atmosphere, to show a precise moment previously captured with her camera.
Angélica Sáenz lived close to art from an early age: Her mother was a painter, who studied with the master of realistic painting, Miguel Venegas Cifuentes. Angelica remembers when she was a child, when her mother prepared some palettes with paint and an onion as referent and thus her and her sister could paint. And then both would study art.
Their themes are always varied, although the focus is the same. First, at the University, she was inspired in the dancers, she admired Degas’ works. With this motivation, she took pictures of the students of the Dance School, allowing her to create original works; she was taking negatives of every moment of the movement of a dancer, because since then she wanted to express in a particular way the concept of motion.

In addition to her degree in Plastic Arts at the University of Chile, Angelica made two courses of realistic painting in the United States. One at the extension center of Harvard University, and one at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. At that time they painted in a garret and the teacher taught to a heterogeneous group of students the technique of realistic art, impressionist painting, and pointillist. During that period, works of great realistic masters, who were in the same museum, where copied, this exercise allowed her to learn to perfect her technique in oil, and to develop her observation with acuity. It was during this time that she definitely favored to a realistic pictorial expression.
“I would like to capture an instant in the work forever”
Regarding to her themes are her simple and daily scenes, and what attracts her most is the nature: from several species of small size birds, condors and eagles to also landscapes of the sea with its waves, reflections and transparencies, also human figures in natural environments, all these figurations in an atmosphere of movement of elusive winds. For this, her great ally has been photography because she is always looking for what element of nature can brings her inspiration for her works. The camera captures the moment that she wants to convey in painting, and then reflects it on her pictorial language expressed by loose and precise strokes. Their colors are pure and clean, bright, fresh, and expansive landscapes, with the particular movement of nature that the artist manages to express with subtlety and agility. Blue prevails in her works, and as she defines: “Blue is atmosphere.”

«The eagle gives the impression that it is breaking the air in the sky»
A reference to her is the Spanish impressionist painter Joaquin Sorolla, whom admires his colors, his expression and how this artist could express the wet bodies and movement. Angelica has resorted to her children to create her composition with human figures: She captures their back to represent a universal figure, a child or a young woman, and so the audience may identify with them as generic images. «I want that my paintings to calm the spirit, help the spectators to feel at peace with what they see, I create quiet environments,» she explains.
While there is dynamism in the flight of birds, in the waves of the water, and wind on nature, this particular movement that expresses the artist is a weightless and delicate creation. As her palette of shades, pictorial mastery, as the compositional choice, invite us to enter to the quiet contemplation of environments.{:}
