In the globalized world we live in, there is a significant separation between humans and nature, two concepts that, instead of being distanced, should have a reciprocal and autonomous relationship in favor of life.
The central proposal of this project is to rethink our relationship with the environment as a space that is inhabited and shared, specifically with the Machángara River.
The sensory and reflective process is an important part of this analysis; therefore, as a starting point, I seek to spiritually cling to the idea of reciprocity with the environment, drawn from Andean cosmology, as a structure of thought that implements relationships between species in a reciprocal manner within the environment they inhabit.
Due to its geographical position, the city of Quito, Ecuador, has extended between volcanoes, ravines, and rivers; the ecosystems that cross the city are part of the same ecology shared by different human and non-human species.
Ideally, the dialogue between all of them would allow for equitable and balanced development of the environment; however, several natural spaces in the city have become dumps, a health problem that intensifies due to the lack of attention paid to waste management deposited in the river and the lack of education of a population that has ceased to live respectfully and reciprocally with its surroundings.
Through this project, an attempt is made to understand the various issues generated by the tensions exerted in this conflicted relationship between the Quito community and the river. To communicate the deficiency and inability of the Quito society to achieve reconciliation with the river, to stop normalizing its pollution, and to foster a sustainable and beneficial environment for all its species.
