In a modern and impressionist art auction of the house Christie’s in New York has been sold one of the portrait most acquaintances of Pablo Picasso for 45 dollar million (almost 41 million of Euros.) This is of Femme Assise, Robe Bleu (woman sit, blue dress), painted in 1939 and that represent a one of his many lovers, the photographer and painter Dora Maar. Both maintained an intense relationship during nine years and painted the painting, he was 58 years and she was 31.
About the work
During the II World War, the Nazis empowered of the painting, but they were intercepted in the travel between Paris and Moravia for the combatants of the French residence. The painting was bought for an American collector and sickles highlight the auction house, the painting has been appreciated a 55% in just six years (so it was sold for 26 million dollar, more of 23 million of Euros.)
This one and others painting of the Picasso’s muses and the impressionist painting of Monet has been the stars in the auction, crowned for the record sale of a sculpture of the Rumanian artist Constantin Brancusi for 57.3 million of dollar (52.093.000 Euros.) The endormie muse (1913) which comes from a private collection in Paris has been acquired surpassing all expectations after an intense bid of more than 10 minutes among several buyers. This sculpture is part of a famous series of six pieces varnished in bronze created from the original (marble), representing a sleeping muse with oval head that brushes the abstraction. The original is at the Hirshorn Museum in Washington D.C.
