29 sitios se encuentran en la lista de posibles candidatos de la UNESCO a ser Patrimonios de la Humanidad. Durante 10 días el comité organizativo del organismo se reunirá en Estambul, Turquía, para seleccionar a los beneficiados.
Son 21 países postulantes, entre los que se encuentra el trabajo del arquitecto Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris, más conocido como Le Corbusier, quien edificó obras en Argentina, Francia, Japón, Suiza, India y otras naciones. En el arte prehistórico se hizo presente con el arte rupestre encontrado en cavernas de China que data del siglo quinto antes de Cristo.
En total, son dieciséis espacios culturales, nueve naturales y cuatro mixtos los que se encuentran en proceso de examinación.

El Director General de Promoción Extranjera y Asuntos Culturales de Turquía, Lale Ülker, es el encargado de gestionar las reuniones del equipo conformado por expertos de diversas nacionalidades.
