Alex Katz es un pintor formado bajo la escuela neoyorquina conocido por sus pinturas de gran escala que se caracterizan por poseer una estética estilizada. Su trabajo nace como reacción al Expresionismo abstracto surgido en 1950 y se mueve entre lo figurativo y la representación.

Bajo un estilo catalogado por expertos como “liso” o “plano”, este artista hace uso de pigmentos para colorear la composición. Sus brillantes y figurativos paisajes toman elementos de la cultura popular norteamericana, como la publicidad y el cine, en lo que marcó una anticipación al Pop Art propagado por Warhol. También pinta retratos en los que la principal musa es su esposa Ada Katz.
