Será en la galería Whitney, la misma que recibió las obras de arte contemporáneo del MET y que inaugura sus funciones a principios de abril. Dos mexicanos y un puertoriqueño fueron seleccionados para la anunciada y destacada exposición de retratos «The Outwin 2016: American Portraiture Today». Se trata de Adrián «Viajero» Román, Gaspar Enríquez y Rigoberto González. Los tres fueron reconocidos por la Galería Nacional de Retratos de Washington, y es la primera vez que tres latinos exponen entre los mejores retratistas estadounidenses.
Las postulaciones contemplaron más de 2.500 artistas. Sólo quedaron 43 seleccionados. Aunque representativamente no implica un porcentaje considerable, lo importante de este anuncio y de la selección de artistas latinos, es que ellos, sin perjuicio de criterios que aborden el origen, han alcanzado un nivel de manufactura plástica y artística que conquista a los ojos de mercados de otros continentes, sobre todo, aquellos que son cuna de grandes exponentes y grandes movimientos artísticos.

La galería que los reconoce forma parte del Smithsonian. Su director de la parte latina, Eduardo Díaz, insistió a Hoy Los Ángeles que en la actualidad el mundo del arte en EE.UU. ya ve a los hispanos como «parte del canon del arte norteamericano», por lo que se organizan más exhibiciones y hay más investigación.
La batalla ha sido difícil principalmente por los prejuicios y estereotipaciones. El arte latino ha sido siempre tildado de figurativo y «colorinche», sin embargo, ello denota una falta de investigación y reconocimiento del mercado Latinoamericano que trabaja hoy en las más diversas y variadas técnicas.

The battle has been difficult primarily because of prejudices and stereotyping. Latin arts always has been cataloged as figurative art and “coloring”, however it denotes lack of research and appreciation of Latin American market which work today in the most diverse and varied techniques.
