Location: AAL Museum, Panquehue, Chile
Date: March 21, 2025
Organizers: AAL Museum, Chile in partnership with Building Bridges Art Exchange Foundation, Los Angeles, USA
Application Deadline: February 28th, 2025, at 12 PM PST

The AAL Museum in Panquehue, Chile, in partnership with the Building Bridges Art Foundation in Los Angeles, California, is excited to announce an open call for the “Pangue Video Art Festival 2025”
This annual traveling festival, established by the two institutions, is dedicated to showcasing video art. Selected videos will become part of the museum’s permanent collection, and the rest of the videos will be chosen by the jurors for each specific festival edition.

Festival Duration: Selected video works will be featured throughout the festival at the AAL Museum in the region of Panquehue, Chile

Curatorial Focus: The festival explores the relationship between humans and fragile natural environments. It is named after the Pangue plant, a flower native to the region of Chile and commonly found in Panquehue, where the AAL Museum is located. In the Mapuche language, “panque” represents the mountain lion and embodies values such as bravery, wisdom, strength, and energy. The symbolism of this plant is key to the festival, highlighting the strength and energy that humans can exchange with nature. It emphasizes the healing power of nature and how we can rebuild our connection with our planet.

Call for Submissions: We invite artists, video makers, and filmmakers from “Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean” to submit works that explore the relationship between humans and fragile natural environments. We encourage submissions that integrate meaningful messages and potential solutions within the narrative of the work.

Human-Nature Connection: We seek to understand how individuals relate to their environment and the broader implications of climate change and social change through the body and the land. Artists are encouraged to share personal stories through their videos, connecting their experiences with the audience. Due to the location of the AAL Museum, where we will launch this first edition of the festival, we are particularly interested in narratives that address decentralization and envision a better future for humanity.
