Chile, 1972. Visual artist and academic at the UC Chile School of Arts. He has a PhD in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.
He has exhibited in several art galleries in Latin America, in the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago, Chile, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Valdivia, among other institutional spaces.
Through an exploration of the possibilities in smoke as an element to develop his artwork, Danilo Espinoza shapes the presence and absence of fire, whilst addressing several aspects related to memory, history, politics, and the relationship with the Mapuche people.
The smoke he employs in these pieces acts as a tool to delve into the worldview and ritual practices of the Mapuche people. Furthermore, it serves as a dual symbol of their hardships and resilience, as well as the intimacy and warmth of home.
