JR es un fotógrafo y artista callejero que en cada una de sus obras busca una escala mayor. Su galería son las calles y murallas de diversas ciudades en el mundo; su objetivo es llegar al público que no tiene una relación habitual con el arte.
Las olimpiadas de Brasil comienzan esta semana y JR aprovechó la ocasión para montar una de sus instalaciones más grandes hasta el momento. Se trata de esculturas gigantes desplegadas en andamios dispuestos en edificios y otras locaciones. Los sujetos retratados son deportistas, tales como Mohamed Younes Idriss, atleta sudanés de salto en altura.
Paradójicamente, Younes Idriss no clasificó para esta versión de los Juegos Olímpicos. Se cree que este es un mensaje contestatario en contra a las autoridades deportivas de un país que se ha visto envuelto en conflictos sociales y políticos.
Las obras e intervenciones de JR le han otorgado un renombre mundial, a pesar de su anonimato. La técnica que desarrolló para sus instalaciones en Brasil recibe el nombre de “esculturas voladoras”. Al ver las imágenes de su trabajo se entiende la elección de aquel nombre para definir el arte realizado por él.

The olympics on Brazil begin this week and JR took advantage of the occasion to show one of his biggest installations of the moment. It is about gigantic sculptures unfolded in platforms located in buildings and in other locations. The subjects portrayed are athletes such as Mohamed Younes Idriss, Sudanese athlete of high jump.
Paradoxically,Younes Idriss did not qualified for this version of the Olympic Games. It is believed that this rebellious message against the sport authorities of a country that has been under the scope in relation to social and political conflicts.
JR’s pieces and interventions have gave him global fame, even though his anonymity. The technique that he developed for his installations in Brazil receive the name of “flying sculptures”. As watching the images of his work can be understood the name choice to define his art.
