Zurita
Raúl Zurita es más que un poeta, más que un artista y revolucionario – su obra ha inspirado a toda una generación, y contribuyó activamente a la oposición artístico/política que se vivió en Chile en la época de la dictadura. Fue miembro fundador del C.A.D.A. (Colectivo de Acción de Arte), nacido a mediados de los 70, junto con Lotty Rosenfeld, Juan Castillo y Diamela Eltit. La poesía de Zurita constituía muchas veces la base desde la cual se iniciaban las acciones, obras e intervenciones que producía el grupo. Eran tiempos en los que la situación de restricciones personales y culturales que se producían en Chile requerían de una respuesta por parte de los artistas: que veían truncadas sus libertades; y que apostaron en los medios nuevos y las formas menos tradicionales del Arte como una vía para expresar su descontento. Raúl Zurita escribió Purgatorio en 1979, y desde allí combatió por la resistencia, la disidencia y la libertad de expresar el descontento, la persecución y la violencia (que incluso él vivió en primera persona).
Su obra ha sido inspiración para un sinnúmero de escritores y artistas, y es él mismo quien expone su pensar frente a las nuevas generaciones en el comunicado de prensa que emitió luego de conocer la noticia sobre el premio: “mi pensamiento está puesto en los jóvenes y nuevos poetas chilenos y latinoamericanos, quienes están abriéndonos al mundo y pensando en que la poesía es posiblemente la voz más profunda del pueblo chileno».

No cabe duda que Raúl Zurita es una figura que merece este tipo de reconocimiento, la posibilidad de hacer visible el trabajo de un poeta que no sólo influenció en la literatura nacional y latinoamericana, sino que también en el Arte lo vuelven un actor fundamental en los procesos histórico-políticos y sociales. Es un personaje que ocupó al Arte y la Literatura como un arma de resistencia frente a las injusticias y violaciones a los Derechos Humanos de la Dictadura, una temática que no sólo se adhiere a la situación vivida en Chile, sino que es un mensaje universal: y de donde radica su importancia e influencia nacional e internacional.

Generally, Zurita’s poetry was the base from where the group’s actions, artworks and interventions began. This was a period when the situation of personal and cultural restrictions in Chile required an artist’s response. They saw their realities controlled and trusted in new media and innovative art expressions as an escape to express their unhappiness. Raúl Zurita wrote Purge in 1979. From there, he fought for the resistance, the dissent and the freedom of expression to show the unhappiness, the persecution and the violence (even, he lived it).
His work has been an inspiration for many writers and artists. He gives his opinion against the new generations in a press release emitted after the new about the prize. He says, “My thought is focused in new, young Chilean and Latin American artists. They are open our world to others and thinking that poetry is, perhaps, the most powerful voice for Chilean people”.
There isn’t any doubt about that Raúl Zurita is an icon who deserves this award. It’s a possibility of making famous the work of this artist. He not only influenced the national and Latin American literature; Raúl contributed in Arts, so he turns an important actor in socials, historical and political processes. The artist is a character who used Arts and Literature as a weapon against the Dictatorship’s injustices and human rights violations.
