Vuelo de Reconocimiento
2023, mp4 video. 2.43 min. Image Record (2004) directed by Matilde Marín, edited and sound by Julieta Anuat. Santa Cruz, Argentina.

The video “Vuelo de reconocimiento” documents Matilde Marin’s 2004 experience in the glacier region of Southern Patagonia. The video is structured in two parts: first, the artist’s arrival on a commercial flight, followed by an overflight in a small, three-person light plane, allowing the artist to explore the glaciers from the air.

During this flight, Matilde observed the shrinking of the glaciers, particularly the Perito Moreno Glacier, but also the Upsala and other smaller glaciers. The magnificence of the glacier fronts is striking, but equally striking is the way they have been shrinking over time, reflecting the progression of climate change.
