The dogs in the square bite the bones, searching for the invisible flesh of their ancestors. All the dogs search for bones in the ground, in the cemetery seeking rot among the ruins. They bark chained so the words of songs won’t escape. Like domesticated wolves, they howl for the dead and sway to reach the flowers of the tallest trees.
They say that dogs resemble their owners, but the street dogs resemble all citizens, transforming their heads on full moon nights. They run in circles to catch their tails, in a reflective performance aspiring to recover the bones of their friends, the inert witnesses of presence in the world.
