Pieles Desiertas
2019, video performance, 1.48 min. Recording and editing: Chechu Pajares, music: Vislevski – Flying in the Clouds. United Arab Emirates.

In the vast desert landscape of the Arab Emirates, Mareo explores the relationship between the human body and a geography in constant transformation. Through performances, his race on the dunes evokes the passage of time and the ephemeral trace of our existence. Waves in the sand sculpted by the wind become a metaphor of the skin: a living surface that wrinkles, stretches and is eroded, reflecting the organic fate of nature and human beings.

The video captures this intimate conversation between body and landscape, where each step on the sand is a fleeting gesture, an echo of inevitable transformation to come. The vastness of the desert does not only confront us to the fragility of individuals, but also highlights the connection between matter and time. Through this performance, Mareo urges us to reflect on transience, erosion as the language of change, and the perpetual dance between resistance and surrender to the forces of nature.
