Mexico, 1961. His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012; the Fourth International Biennial of Photography, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 2010; the Guangzhou International Biennial, at the Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China, 2009; and the Carrillo Gil Art Museum, Mexico City, Mexico, 2008.

Institutions that collect his artwork include the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City, Mexico; El Museo del Barrio, NYC, New York; and the FEMSA Collection, Monterrey, Mexico.

Using desert images from Atacama in Chile, the Sahara in Egypt, the Black Desert in Iceland, the Thar Desert in India, Nazca in Peru, the Sahara Desert in Morocco, the Sonoran-Arizona and Chihuahuan Deserts in Mexico, the Gobi in Mongolia, the Namib Desert in Namibia, and the White Sands in the United States, the artist seeks to create an immersive experience by uniting these lands’ vastness and silence.

“The silence feels like a pulse, but it is a different pulse in each desert. Sometimes it is a very strong pulse”, Alfredo De Stefano comments.
