Eight films will take part of this important challenge in the fifteenth edition of the Santiago Festival Internacional de Cine, including three worldwide premieres, two Latin American and three premieres in Chile, which will participate in the Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Performance categories.
Santiago Festival Internacional de Cine, SANFIC -organized by Fundación CorpArtes and produced by Storyboard Media- announces the eight films that will participat in the Competition of Chilean Cinema at the fifteenth edition that will be carried oyt between August 18 and 25.
“This year, we present in our section “Competition of Chilean Cinema” a selection of eight films by Chilean producers that connets us with current topicas as sexual diversity and tradiction of Mapuche people, relfecting realities in our country through fiction and documentaries. As Foundation we look for boosting the spreading of Chilean creations, what we can see through this festival section placed as an important for this purpose, and at the same time, we look for viewers to have access, know and enjoy recent quality productions, which in the context of this competition are exhibited for the first time in Chile”, stated Francisca Florenzano, Executive Director of Fundación CorpArtes.
Among the eight titles stand out the world premieres of Perros sin cola, the first full-length film by director Carolina Quezada; El día más largo, the second film by Diego Escobar and Harley Queen by renowned directors José Luis Sepúlveda and Carolina Adriazola (Il Siciliano). It also includes the premieres in Chile of Amukan, Francisco Toro Lessen’s second fiction film (Konün Wenu), spoken in Mapudungun and Spanish; Los reyes, directed by Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff (The death of Pinochet) -through the IDFA, the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam, where he won the Best Documentary prize-; and Lemebel, by Joanna Reposi (Matiz), focused on the renowned Chilean writer, artist and performer Pedro Lemebel and who was awarded this year with a Teddy Award for Best Documentary at the Berlin International Film Festival.

As for the films that will have their Latin American premieres are the documentary Haydee y el pez volador, Pachi Bustos (Tales about the future). This production was premiered worldwide in the recent edition of the International Documentary Festival of Canada, Hot Docs and was recognized as the Best Documentary Pitch in the Industry space of SANFIC 11-, as well as the fiction feature Sumergida, opera prima by Andrés Finat, and that had its world premiere at the last edition of the Malaga International Film Festival in Spain.
