Balmaceda Arte Joven (BAJ) invites students and graduates from Visual Arts and Art Pedagogy degrees of all Chilean universities to participate of the 6th version of the Young Art University Contest, an initiative aims for promoting, publishing and encouraging the production of artworks by new creators. The call will be open until January 31st of 2019.
“For our corporation it is a pride to build this 6th version of the Young Art University Contest, an instance that has become one of the most important emerging art competitions in the country, always showing a unique panorama of the country’s visual arts scene. It is also an opportunity to strengthen the community of artists who live the experience of meeting creators from all over Chile, “says Loreto Bravo, executive director of BAJ.
“The contest, that has strengthened as a referent in the emerging young art scene, invites young artist to apply with original pieces until January 31st of 2019″
A jury of experts will proceed with the selection of the best works to be presented in a collective exhibition at the MAC Quinta Normal Contemporary Art Museum. In the exhibition, the winner of an individual exhibition will be chosen in the Art Gallery of Balmaceda Arte Joven Metropolitan Headquarters.
In addition, residence awards will be granted in Chile and abroad. The winner of the “graduated” category will hold an artistic residency at Kiosko Galería (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia), while the winner of the “student” category will make a residency in the Comarca de Contuy (Queilen, Chiloé).
How to participate?
Applicant projects can be carried out in the disciplines of installation, painting, drawing, engraving, sculpture, mixed media, photography, video or performance. The works must be individual, collective works will not be accepted. The bases do not consider limits of format or materiality and the subject is free.

Those interested should participate by registering their work through the online registration form available at www.baj.cl, where the contest rules will also be available.
About the contest
The Young Art University Competition has become a benchmark in the creative development of the new generations, a space where networking and collective management are encouraged. To date it has called more than 1,700 artists nationwide and its final samples have been visited by more than 30 thousand people, considering its last five versions.
The project has the support of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, and the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
