Art Contemporary Workers organize a Congress at the Cultural Center La Moneda

Artists, mediators, consultants, communicators and investigators, among others, will be meeting in order to debate about several ethics dilemmas that their professions are facing, their organization strategies and their relation with the State and educational organizations.

Friday, August 31st August and Saturday, September 1st  in 2018 is going to carry out the First Congress of Art Contemporary Workers. It is a good moment to install a debate about fundamental matters that question Chilean art contemporary workers and it seeks to generate an analysis of the incident and to identify important problems, so they can agree a position as sector.

Start a debate with all people involved in Chilean contemporary art, not just artists, it is one of the special features of this activity. “We are inviting mediators, consultants, theorists to be part and reflect with us about the activity that we are going to develop.” State from ACA Arte Contemporáneo Asociado, which is the organizing entity of the Congress that will be develop at the Cultural Center La Moneda (Citizen Square, 26, Santiago).

Claudia Del Fierro, artist and directory member of ACA, expresses that “the need to develop this congress appears from the join reflection done by ACA’s basis in 2017, in order to investigate important subjects related with art contemporary workers. There is a collective desire to put our ideas and to define a strategic plan, so we can dialogue with different public and private organizations. Also, we want to face the political events in our region. ACA is rearticulating as a gremial association and this congress is doubtlessly a fact.”

During the first meeting, important ethic problems discovered by art contemporary workers when they relate with each other and institutions will be discussed. Also, they are going to analyze Chilean incidents, specially the civil society. During the second meeting, meanwhile, the relation between contemporary workers, the State and its educational organizations will be discussed. Congress work tables will be organized in three different sections: Art and Ethics, Art and civil society and Art, State and Education, respectively.

The Congress will end with a general assembly where all the conclusions of each section will be presented. Then, another debate will happen in order to develop a sort of map for the job of the next two years. Because of this, we can create a Strategic Vision of ACA 2018-2019, which is an organization that seeks a position as a platform that can represent the interests of different people contributing to the develop of contemporary art.

Ignacia Saona, cultural consultant and member of ACA’s board of directors, states that “ACA represents over 300 people connected to contemporary art, which is a huge achievement, considering the low participation of workers in all areas in associations and unions of Chile. Besides, ACA has an interdisciplinary approach that is characteristic of contemporary art. The organization of a congress like this one is an open invitation to reflect based on condition that we are creating artworks and to think collectively in how the practice of our different professions are affecting Chile’s cultural development.”

ACA (Arte Contemporáneo Asociado) was created in 2005 and its main goal is to promote the rationalization, development and protection of Chilean contemporary art. Artists, consultants, journalist, teachers, researchers and art contemporary mediators are associated with ACA.
