Slovenia | The 16th version of Art Stays is celebrated

The 16th edition of Art Stays, the biggest Slovenian Festival of contemporary art will have more than 30 events called Frágil, which will take place on July 6th and September 9th of 2018.

The festival consists of a wide range of media, considering sculpture, photography, installation, video, painting, performance and music. The directors of the festival, Jernej Forbici, and Marika Vicari examined artists, international galleries, museums, public and private installations in a curatorial way (including Fondazione Berengo de Venecia, Fondazione Modena Arti Visive, Premio Arte Laguna, among others).

Why is impressionism important in our history?

Glasstress Ptuj Slovenia will be the main exhibition this year, in Ptuj city. This is a long-term project designed by Adriana Berengo, aiming to promote the union of contemporary art with glass. Artists of all disciplines, from sculptures to musicians were invited to create this “art with glass”. In this sense, Glasstress represents the cooperation of craftsmanship and creativity, while it gives shape to a new path for contemporary artists.

Among pieces of the festival, the work of Ai Weiwei, Monira Al Qadiri, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Leonardo Cimolin, Josepha Gasch-Muche, Shane Guffogg, Brigitte Kowanz, Vik Muniz, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Thomas Schütte, Gavin Turk, Koen Vanmechelen, Fred Wilson, Erwin Wurm are considered.

Additionally, the presence of the Chilean artist María Fernanda Guzmán, who won the Art Stays award of Laguna Arte award of Venice. Her piece is a big installation of crests, nodes, and links with different sculptural views. This work has an exceptional originality because of its fragility, and it will be created in the specific place and time, being exhibited the last day of the festival in the exhibition rooms of the Public Library Ivan Potrč.

Conversely, in Art Factory in Majšperk, there will be a big exhibition of art in ceramics titled Crash me Gently, which gathers pieces of Slovenian artists and ceramicists that use clay. In addition, the opening show will be in charge of Drago Mislej Mef, one of the best Slovenian musicians.
