Semíramis González and Daniel Silvo | The new of JustMAD

Semíramis González and Daniel Silvo, directors of JustMAD tell Arte Al Límite about the novelties that the fair will bring, which is considered as one of the most innovative spaces to see contemporary art during the week of art in Madrid. This year, in particular, galleries from Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Bogota, Mexico, Austria, the United States and France will be present.

Here we will see works by young artists of great quality, something very difficult to find due to the complexity of valuing and committing on the creation that is being done right now.

What is the novelty of this fair, in relation to the other fairs in Madrid?

We are the fair where you can find current projects, new galleries and young artists of great quality for which very good galleries commit. Here we will see works by young artists of great quality, something very difficult to find due to the complexity of valuing and committing on the creation that is being done right now. When art is so novel, it is difficult to look at it with enough perspective and value it in its proper measure. Our galleries are good at detecting these young values, and we have relied on those galleries. The prices offered by our galleries are affordable for a young collector or occasional new buyers.

How is it different from its previous versions?

This year we have had an advisory committee that has done an excellent job selecting the participating galleries, which has raised the level of our galleries. The location is, as we have already mentioned, another change that we considered necessary.
We also want to pay special attention to the curators, for whom we have scheduled a breakfast where they can meet and visit the fair calmly, being able to chat with gallerists and artists.

Another novelty is the walk through the Parkour galleries, which took place in November 2017, allowing our visitors to make a tour of the galleries of Madrid that participate in our fair this year.

In Spain we find a large number of Latin American artists producing work that draws from both contexts. The dialog between these Latin American and Spanish artists generates great value for the creation of both, and we have been observing it for several years.

In the case of collectors, what would be the best day to visit the fair?

I would come on Wednesday afternoon or throughout Thursday, since this is the time when the fair can be seen more calmly and can be discussed in more detail with gallery owners, artists and curators present at the fair.

How was the public and gallery reception during the great trajectory of this fair?

Always with great enthusiasm and good expectations. Dedicating oneself to the most current young art generates an attention that is repeated each year, since it is difficult to see the same things for several consecutive years. Artists are growing very quickly in these early years of their career, as well as galleries.

How have you seen the evolution of Latin American art on the European continent over the last decade?

Latin American art, or rather, the art created by Latin American artists, enjoys an excellent pulse, and its proposals have a force that can only be found in the intuition of those who risk. This strength we believe has had a very positive influence on our European artists, launching themselves to hybridize plastic forms and incorporate other practices related to art such as curatorship or museography within the discourses.

Do you consider that Spain may be a key country for this?

It is, no doubt. In Spain we find a large number of Latin American artists producing work that draws from both contexts. The dialog between these Latin American and Spanish artists generates great value for the creation of both, and we have been observing it for several years. Madrid is the city where these artists meet to chat and share experiences, in their studios, bars, museums, in the streets…
