Dirac abre concurso para apoyar el arte chileno en el extranjero

The 2018 Dirac Contest allows to finance new projects of the fields of visual arts, performing arts, (theater and dance), music, literature, film and audio visuals, heritage, design, architecture and handicrafts.

From June 23rd to August 31st, all Chilean artists, cultural managers and cultural institutions can present their projects for the fund in support of Chilean art overseas that the Dirac (Directorate of Cultural Affairs) of the Chilean Foreign Affairs Ministry. The contest includes initiatives filled by Embassies, Consulates and Multilateral Missions of Chile.

The 2018 Dirac Contest constitutes an internationalization reference of Chilean art and creations, in its broadest representation. A partial contribution to the funds requested for the execution of projects is along its line of financing, which will be bestowed according to the records filled and the annual budget.

Through its two lines of financing — one for artists and one for Embassies, Consulates and Multilateral Missions of Chile overseas— the contest supports the execution of Chilean cultural activities in the world to promote our culture within a broad public and to allow Chilean creators to penetrate the main cultural circuits in the world.

Proposals in the fields of visual arts, performing arts, (theater and dance), music, literature, film and audio visuals, heritage, design, architecture and handicrafts will be accepted and submitted to assessment by an expert jury that will considere several criteria regarding quality, relevance, importance, suitability, opportunity and the public the proposal is addressed to. Each art field will have its own rules, adjusting to the specificity and needs of each of the disciplines.

The winning projects must be submitted between March and December, 2018 for artists and from February to December for Embassies.

This year’s edition of the Dirac Contest encompasses innovative initiatives, such as the tour of the Poet’s Orchestra of Spain and Italy; projects of humanitarian significance like the exhibitions of Rafael Guendelman in Ramallah, the West Bank and Bethlehem; the new esthetic trends manifested in relational art of the Mexican project La Olla Común by artist and chef Gustavo Torres; and the promotion of Chilean pop music with the tours of the Denver duet in England and of Javiera Mena to Japan and China; among many others.
