Una nueva identidad y sentido son los componentes que dan vida al Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Cerrillos. El ex aeropuerto fue remodelado y acondicionado para transformarse en el núcleo de del arte Chileno actual. Con obras inéditas de artistas como José Balmes, Vicente Huidobro, Pedro Lemebel, Voluspa Jarpa, entre otros, el centro busca promover la experimentación y el diálogo en torno al arte nacional.
La inauguración, llevada a cabo por diversas autoridades de Gobierno entre las que se encontraban el Vicepresidente de la República, Mario Fernández, el ministro de Cultura, Ernesto Ottone, la ministra de Vivienda, Paulina Saball y el intendente de Santiago, Claudio Orrego, fue seguida por directivos comunales, artistas y vecinos, quienes presenciaron la apertura de la muestra “Una imagen llamada palabra”. La exposición, que reúne más de 50 obras de artistas contemporáneos chilenos, busca reflexionar en torno al arte nacional a través del cruce entre imagen y texto.
En torno a tres áreas se configuró el uso del espacio en las instalaciones que hoy forman parte del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes (CNCA); exhibición, documentación y mediación son los espacios que hilan la narrativa de las instalaciones exhibidas en el lugar.

“Este es un momento histórico para el mundo de las artes y la cultura de nuestro país. La apertura del Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo en Cerrillos significa el despegue de todos los sueños, motivaciones y proyectos para las artes visuales en Chile. Es la recuperación de un espacio para un proyecto inédito, impulsado plenamente por el Estado y desde el cual se desarrollará de manera integral el trabajo en torno a las políticas públicas, investigación, experimentación y al mismo tiempo exhibición y mediación del arte contemporáneo, en una comuna que se levanta como futuro polo cultural para Santiago y todo el país”, dijo el Ministro de Cultura, Ernesto Ottone, quien recordó en su discurso al recientemente fallecido José Balmes, artista del que se expone su icónica obra “NO”, además de “El doble exilio», en coautoría con Gracia Barrios.
Un centro participativo
La apertura de un concurso público para ocupar el cargo de Director artístico, marca la visión participativa que busca promover el Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Cerrillos. También se conformará un Consejo de Administración con presencia de los vecinos, el municipio, y directores de museos internacionales y nacionales. Además, se creará un comité curatorial con presencia de artistas visuales, fotógrafos y artes mediales y sonoros.
Este proyecto busca responder a la necesidad de contar con una política estatal que administre y conserve el patrimonio artístico contemporáneo en sus distintos ámbitos a nivel nacional. Se trata del proyecto más innovador del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes en materia de artes visuales. Sus tareas serán coleccionar, catalogar, conservar, investigar, exponer y educar, con fuerte énfasis en los proyectos interdisciplinarios y multiculturales.
“Es un espacio que hace mucha falta. Hubo una larga discusión por la prensa de que esto era un redoble de los museos, pero esto no es un museo, es un lugar que va a proponer un acceso participativo del arte contemporáneo con la gente, con público que viene al parque, con especialistas, artistas y curadores nacionales y extranjeros, que podrán ver obras instaladas en forma permanente, como ésta (“Quadrivium ad usum Delphini”), que estaba en unas cajas (…). Estuve acarreando cajas en bodegas durante 18 años, así que prefiero que esté a préstamo en un lugar donde la gente la pueda ver”, comentó el artista Gonzalo Díaz.

On three areas was configured the use of the space in the installations that today are part of the National Council of Culture and the Arts (CNCA), exhibition, documentation and mediation are the spaces that link the narrative of the exhibited installations in the place.

It is the recovery of a space for an unpublished project boosted by the State and from which the work will be developed on a comprehensive way about the public politics, investigation, experimentation and at the same time exhibition and mediation of contemporary art, in a commune that is raising as future cultural pole for Santiago and all the country,” said the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Ottone, who remember in his speech to the recently deceased José Balmes, artist of which is expound his iconic work “NO”, also “El Doble Exilio” in co-authorship with Gracia Barrios.
A participatory center
The opening of a public competition to occupy the position of Artistic Director mark the participatory vision that seeks to promote the National Center of Contemporary Art in the commune of Cerrillos. Also will be making up with Council of Administration with neighbors, municipality and director of international and national museums. Also will be created a curatorial committee with presence of visual artists, photographs and medieval arts and resounding.
This project seeks to answer to the necessity to count on with a state policy that manage and preserve the contemporary artistic patrimony in its different areas in national level. It is about the most innovators Project of the National Council of the Culture and the Arts in matters of visual arts. Its jobs will be to collect, catalog, preserve, investigate, exhibit and educate with strong emphasis in interdisciplinary and multicultural.
“In a space that is need, there was a large discussion by the press about that is an imitation of museums, but this in not a museum, it is a place that will propose a participatory access of contemporary art with people, with public who come from the park, with specialists, artist and national and foreign curator that could see installed works in a permanent way, as (“Quadrivium ad usum Delphini”), that was in a boxes (…). I was carrying boxes in storehouses during 18 years, so I prefer that it is in an place where people can see,” said the artist Gonzalo Díaz.
