Empty Spaces: Piedmont Park Pool and Bathhouse
A Photography Exhibition by Susan Hadorn at the Showcase School of Photography Opening Friday,
January 11 from 6:30 - 9:00Susan Hadorn states, “When old structures are torn down, or altered, a part of our past disappears forever. The fabric of the environment is inescapably changed, its value negated to nothing more than a distant memory. The significance of these landmarks is often in the details representing separate elements that together make up the greater narrative. Piedmont Park is a celebrated cultural and recreational urban green space in historic Midtown Atlanta. The old stone bathhouse rests beside Clara Meer, a small lake perhaps named for a young lady who once lived in the neighborhood. The swimming pool assumes a parcel of land between the bathhouse and the lake. Piedmont Park is experiencing exponential growth as it develops recently acquired acreage and renovates existing structures and landscape. The bathhouse and swimming pool will be revitalized as part of this master plan. My photographs detail the threads that weave together the last fragments of something familiar before it vanishes into a previous era. This is a chronicle that documents a piece of the history of Atlanta.”
